Huge gems show scheduled in Edison

An event that brings vendors from all over the world to meet customers who would like to purchase their gems and other items is coming to Edison.

The New Jersey Mineral, Fossil, Gem & Jewelry Show will be held at the New Jersey Exposition Center in Edison. The enormous event features jewelry Boxes, petrified wood, cabochons, crystals, silver, gold, findings, beads, emeralds, turquoise, amber, artisan jewelry, gemstones, meteorites, fossils, and more, in three different grades, investment, intermediate, and beginner.

There will be a special 10,000 square foot area set aside for wholesalers only, who need to have a business or sales tax license. This area will open one hour ahead of the general sales floor. Approximately 450 vendors are expected to take part, and event organizers expect attendance to be between 14,000 and 20,000 people, weather depending.

In addition to sales, there are activities planned such as having children try metal detection, sluice for gems, crack geodes, and pan for gold. The Franklin Mineral Museum is lending its UV mineral room exhibit, which glows, and the Smithsonian Institution is setting up a photo exhibit.

The show is set for May 11-15, with hours as follows: May 11, 12.00 pm until 8.00 pm; May 12, 12.00 pm until 8.00 pm; May 13, 12.00 pm until 8.00 pm; May 14, 10.00 am until 7.00 pm; and May 15, 10.00 am until 6.00 pm. Organizers of events of this size can use flyer printing to create maps of the vendors for attendees.
