Highland Park residents will be able to enjoy a day of running, eating, and shopping this spring.

First thing in the morning will be the Seventh Annual 5k Run-in-the-Park. Afterwards, everyone can meander through the 26th Annual Spring Street Fair.

This year, the race will have a new course, and proceeds from it will benefit Main Street Highland Park and Recreation, the local library, and the emergency services. Also, the organizers ask runners to bring a nonperishable food item for the local food pantry. Local families and friends may want to get some banner printing done in time to show their support for their athletes.

After the race, attendees may want to check out the free street fair. This year, 120 non-food booths, many supported by local merchants, artists, and crafters, will be available for the more than 25,000 people expected to attend. Food vendors from local restaurants will have many dishes to offer. The event will include the traditional arts and crafts, live music, carnival rides, games, and a petting zoo.

The fun will be had on May 3. The Run-in-the-Park will begin at 9:00 am on North Fifth Avenue. The Kids’ Race around the high school track gets underway an hour later. The Fair will be held from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm on Raritan Street between Second and Sixth Streets.
