Any dog-loving Highland Park locals who struggle to get their beloved pooches to behave as they would like can benefit from the advice of expert dog trainer Kris Collins, who will be giving a free talk and answering dog owners’ questions later this month.

The course is called “Ask the dog trainer—Basic Training” and will consist of a 45-minute talk at the local library for those who attend.

The emphasis will be on creating an environment and relationship between dog and owner in which the dog will want to do what the owner requests. People of all ages are invited to attend the course, but the event is geared towards humans only, so they are advised not to bring their pets. Some may wish to have flyer printing done to promote the event.

Collins has a degree in Animal Behavior and has worked at Petco, where he taught classes to both dogs and their owners. He stresses that for dog training to be successful, people have to be taught how to not only train their dog, but to behave in ways that make sense to the dog.

The talk will be given Thursday, August 27, at 7:00 pm at Highland Park Public Library, 31 North 5th Ave. Highland Park. There is no charge to attend, and Collins will take questions after the talk.
