A developer has returned with a new plan for property in Edison.

In 2021, Edison’s township zoning board decided to put off a decision about a proposed project that would repurpose a closed restaurant, Charlie Brown’s, located on Plainfield Road. Markim Developers LLC had proposed building 23 age-restricted townhomes on the site. After the board postponed the matter, the developer abandoned the plan and said it would reconsider and submit a new plan that aligned with the concerns of residents of the neighborhood and local government officials.

Markim will soon bring its new plan to the board. It now proposes building 16 age-restricted two-bedroom units in eight duplexes. With this plan, Markim hopes to secure both preliminary and final approval of the site plan, which will require it to obtain a variance to build residences in an area zoned for use by golf courses only. The property on which Charlie Brown’s stands is adjacent to the Metuchen Golf and Country Club. The developer would raze the restaurant.

Plans for the duplexes show that the units would comprise a kitchen, dinette, powder room, family room, dining room, and garage on the first floor. On the second floor, plans show a master bedroom with an ensuite bath and a walk-in closet, a second bedroom, a second bath, sitting area, and laundry. The attic contains an office, and the duplexes have basements.

When matters like this arise, officials can use brochure printing to create pamphlets for members of the public.
