The Highland Park Human Relations Commission and Community Services invite all of Highland Park to its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Awards Program.
The award is granted to the person whose life exhibits Dr. Martin Luther King’s directive of “read one, teach one, mentor many”. This year’s recipient will be Highland Park’s own Frances McDonald for her work done in the community over the past year.
The guest speaker will be Bill Davis, an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University who specializes in the ‘Black Family’. Entertainment will be provided by Body and Music School of Performing Arts, a special number by soloist Jerret Johnson, and a performance by guitarist Francis A. Varrichio.
This year also marks the 65th anniversary of HRC’s service to the borough and surrounding communities. A special presentation will recap the history of leadership and growth of a progressive and culturally diverse community. Pictures are sure to be taken during this event and reproduced at local printing services for keepsakes and future brochure printing when the time comes to promote next year’s event.
Door prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served over the course of the evening. This event will be held at the Senior /Youth Center, 220 South Sixth Avenue, Highland Park on Monday, January 19, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
