The National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) runs a program called Camp Invention, and Edison students will have a chance to take part.
The effort is a STEM camp that will engage students in solving problems creatively, applying STEM principles, and promoting confidence and innovation. Children entering the first through the sixth grades next September are welcome.
The NIHF has developed four new challenges for this year's camp: Innovation Force, Deep Sea Mystery, Farm Tech, and DIY Orbot. Materials for courses like this are often developed by Print shops.
Innovation Force helps students learn about patents by having the youngsters join with members of the Innovation Force (in reality inductees from NIHF) who have been changed into superheroes. Together, they will battle the supervillain Plagiarizer, who wants to steal ideas from others.
The Deep Sea Mystery challenge strands students on an island, where they have to work together to build equipment to survive there, as well as underwater equipment to help them find their way home.
At Farm Tech, students learn how to run a business by managing a farm. They will also learn basic coding from a programmable robot, who then helps them perform pretend DNA experiments to see if their cattle are healthy.
In DIY Orbot, students will reverse engineer a DIY Orbot, then use it throughout the camp to perform various projects.
The camp is scheduled from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm, from July 29 through August 2, at the John P. Stevens High School.
