Westfield to stage historical reenactment

An event that will play homage to Westfield’s past will welcome both locals and visitors alike in late August.

The 3rd annual March to Yorktown day will be a living history event that explores the role the French-American alliance played during the American Revolution. It will offer an assortment of activities, which will kick off with a parade that will march through the city’s downtown. Anyone who would like to join with the marchers in the procession is welcome to do so.

Along with the parade, which will be filled with re-enactors representing the continental soldiers, French officers and Rhode Island regiment, the celebration will offer a pop-up festival. Here, the attendees will be invited to stay and enjoy a variety of activities planned in honor of the day.

Historical re-enactments offer a fun way for a community to learn about its past. A banner printing company will be able to craft period-style flags, signs, and other items that may be helpful in creating an atmosphere resembling a step back in time.

The event will kick off with an opening ceremony scheduled for 10:30 am on August 28, and the parade will begin at Mindowaskin Park. The function is being held thanks to a variety of sponsorships and other funding, and may need to be rescheduled in the event of bad weather.
