Stratham session to teach secrets of soapmaking

In the days before commercial production, many households made their own soap using a few basic ingredients, and a Stratham area workshop will teach the fundamentals of the practice.

Misty Meadows Herbal Center will be teaching the public how to craft goat’s milk soap in their own home kitchen, and the registration fee is $75. The class will take four hours to complete, and several different methods will be covered.

Along with the milk-based options, the activity will teach how to make soaps that contain botanicals such as pumpkin and banana, and everyone is asked to bring rubber gloves, an apron, eye protection, and also a shirt with long sleeves. It is also recommended that they keep a notebook and pen handy so they can easily take any notes they wish. The activity will be facilitated by Postage Stamp Soap Company’s Ceara Hunt.

Making natural products at home can be both fun and budget friendly. Learning materials for an activity can be prepared by Print shops, and these may include helpful diagrams and other graphic design elements.

This introduction to the art and science of home soap making will be taking place on April 27. The final date to register for the class is April 24, and the session will be on offer at 183 Wednesday Hill Road in Lee.
