Deck the Howls returns to Stratham

The New Hampshire SPCA is bringing back its popular winter program, “Deck the Howls,” offering children an opportunity to engage with shelter animals while taking part in seasonal activities.

The event is designed for youth ages 6 to 12 and provides hands-on ways to support the shelter’s mission during a busy time of year.

Participants will move through a guided candlelit walk of the facility, meet rescue animals awaiting adoption, and read stories to them in a calm, end-of-day setting. The evening also includes craft stations where attendees can create holiday décor for the shelter, along with treats provided by staff. Children are encouraged to arrive in comfortable pajamas and to bring a book to read aloud; Books will be available for those who do not bring one.

Admission is $35 for each child. Because of limited indoor space, organizers ask that parents either drop off participants or restrict adult attendance to one guardian per family. Adults who remain on-site may be asked to remain in the hall during certain portions of the program. Registration is required, and the SPCA notes that cancellations will not be refunded. If severe weather forces the event to close, families will receive credit toward future programs.

The SPCA continues to emphasize community awareness for its seasonal programs.

Local venues often rely on poster printing and other simple visual tools to alert residents to upcoming events and outreach efforts such as this one.

Deck the Howls will be Wednesday, December 17th, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the New Hampshire SPCA, 104 Portsmouth Ave, Stratham, New Hampshire.
