An event that will offer a fun introduction to botany for Stratham kids is on the agenda for this summer, forming part of Rolling Green Nursery’s Garden School Series.
The registrants for the Carnivorous Plant Day will be introduced to these green insect eaters, which range from the well-known Venus flytrap to other types such as pitcher plants, butterworts, sundews and even bladderworts, which are an aquatic species. It will be a hands-on session, and RGN Tree and Shrub Associate Steve Branchaud will be sharing his interest in these plants with those in attendance.
Those who attend this three-hour function will be able to learn how to successfully grow carnivorous plants at home, and they can ask questions and view the selection available for purchase on site. As these species often grow in poor soils, a special growing medium for them will be on offer. Everyone who plans on coming out is encouraged to bring their own bugs so they can see them in action.
Caring for carnivorous plants may require some special knowledge and techniques. Handouts for a horticultural activity may be sourced from Stationery printers in the local area.
Rolling Green Nursery will be welcoming the public for this introduction to meat-eating plants on Saturday, July 9 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. The event is family friendly.
