Botanical dyes have long been used to create patterned clothing and other items, and a class that will give modern a modern twist to those techniques will be on offer near Stratham this summer.
Leaves and flowers gathered from the attendees’ gardens will be utilized during a workshop in which botanical silk scarves will be created. The facilitator has many years of experience with these techniques. The fee for the session for the general public is $200, which includes the cost of the materials used by the makers.
During the class, the group will use the natural materials as well as a mordant to create patterns on the silk scarves. It will be hands on, and when it is time to go home, everyone will be able to take their project along with them. The activity has been organized by Bedrock Gardens in Lee, and the tickets also include admission to the site.
In-person workshops give the participants an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning directly with a subject matter expert. Copies of handouts for distribution during a learning event can be supplied by local Stationery printers.
Bedrock Gardens will be sharing secrets of botanical dying on July 19. The start time for the session is 10:30 am, and tickets to get involved may be purchased via Eventbrite.
