Canines to train their brains in Stratham

The New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA) will offer a one-hour workshop to engage dogs in cognitive play through interactive indoor games.

This session, titled Brain Games for Dogs, will introduce participants to mental exercises that encourage enrichment without requiring outdoor activity.

Led by trainer Ashley C., the program aims to demonstrate how household items can be transformed into tools for mental stimulation. Activities include box challenges, cup-based puzzles, and other hands-on exercises to keep dogs mentally engaged. The workshop is appropriate for puppies and adult dogs and emphasizes relationship-building through structured play.

Attendees are required to bring a harness or flat collar with a standard six-foot leash, excluding prong, choke, or electronic collars. A treat bag for hands-free reward delivery should also be brought. High-value treats, water, and appropriate footwear such as boots or sneakers are recommended. Trainers on-site can advise on alternative tools for dogs requiring additional support.

The session is limited to six participants to ensure individualized instruction and guidance. Ashley C., who specializes in obedience and social behavior, will bring experience in group instruction and private lessons. She is currently completing her certification as a professional canine trainer.

Poster printing may be used by organizers to get the word out about events such as this one.

The Brain Games for Dogs workshop will take place on Saturday, June 21, from 10:15 am to 11:15 am at the New Hampshire SPCA Training Room, 104 Portsmouth Avenue, Stratham. Registration is $50 per participant.
