A visiting professor has scheduled a visit and discussion for next month, with the aim of providing a deeper insight into Kernersville’s history.
The August Taste of History: Classical Art of Körner’s Folly is set to open its doors to Kernersville residents and local history buffs, offering an opportunity to learn more about one of the town’s first families and its collection of classical art. The session will be led by Dr. John Hutton, a professor of Art History at Salem College.
Hutton will discuss the architecture and art of Körner’s Folly, a historic district in town. The area is named for the Körner Family, who were proponents of classical art and architecture within the town’s community. The family contributed to the arts by providing areas designated for artistic expression while exhibiting works and pieces collected from their global travels. Brochure printing can help promote such events and share relevant information with attendees.
The program will showcase and discuss several pieces from the Körner collection. Hutton will also share his opinions and insights on how art and architecture grew in the late 1800s. Light refreshments will be provided to attendees.
The historical program is scheduled for Saturday, August 2 at 10:00 AM. It will be held in the John and Bobbie Wolfe Visitor Center’s Community Room. Admission is free, and registration is not required.
