North Carolina colleges waive application fees this week only

In a special statewide promotional event branded North Carolina College Application Week, colleges and universities across North Carolina are waiving application fees or accepting College Board or ACT fee waivers this week until Friday at

5 p.m. The effort is meant to encourage more North Carolina high school students to apply to college and to apply early.

Those who demonstrate financial need according to College Board standards will receive a waiver notification from College Board if they have already taken the SAT. This notification will include a special code unique to the student that must be included with their college application. Those opting for the ACT must complete the ACT's “Request for Waiver or Deferral of College Admission Application Fee." The form must be signed by the designated high school official.

GTCC, Bennett College, Greensboro College, Guilford College, and N.C. A&T are waiving application fees for all North Carolina high school seniors, regardless of financial need. Students are encouraged to contact the colleges for brochures.

Guilford College, which was founded by Quakers, has been ranked the 158th best liberal arts college in the country by U.S. News and World Report. It also has been recognized as one of the best colleges for veterans and a favorite among high school counselors.
