May 13 saw Triad native Ryan Saunders put together the 4th Annual Hopfest, a yearly one-day festival to celebrate live musical performances, food trucks, craft breweries, and a market.
The event was inspired by similar festivities in cities like Chattanooga, Greenville, Raleigh, and Durham.
This year’s event involved many sponsors, including Wyndham Championship, Home State Apparel, Pepsi, and The Barnabas Network. Companies that participate in big local events can often display professionally printed Banners or other signage that advertises their support.
Hopfest featured musical acts like DJ Marley Marl, Craig G, DJ JS-1, and The Beatbox House. Live video from the performances, as well as various streams throughout the day of the fun being had at the event, were shown on the event’s Facebook page.
Hopfest’s official charitable partner for 2017 was the Transit Alliance for Piedmont. TAP is an alliance of citizens, leaders, and organizations in the Piedmont Triad area who work together to encourage public transportation in North Carolina.
According to Saunders, Hopfest is a chance to showcase both the current culture within Greensboro, and the potential energy of the community. He ties the success of Austin City Limits and SXSW to the expansive tech community in Austin, Texas, and hopes that Hopfest will help Greensboro grow into its potential as it continues to expand.
Businesses interested in participating in next year’s Hopfest should contact the event through their website.
