For those who want to learn more about bees and beekeeping, the Pollinator Day Celebration will soon be held for the seventh year at Chatham Mills in Pittsboro, a short drive from Fayetteville.
Most likely, the sponsors of the event (the Chatham County Beekeepers’ Association, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, and Starrlight Mead) are using flyer printing to let people in the area become aware of the event, and let them know of how bees and other insects thatpollinate are important, as they produce one third of our food crops.
There will be educational presentations about beekeeping, covering such topics as equipment needs, how to get started, and what to plant in a garden to attract pollinators. Baked goods made with local honey will be served and recipes for cooking with honey will also be available. Mead tasting and a mead-making demonstration will be held, and attendees will be able to see where honey wines are produced at the Mill.
The day will also include a tour of the Pollinator Garden at Chatham Mills and giveaways of shrubs, perennials, and Gift Certificates from participating nurseries.
Rounding out the day will be a children’s tent with activities such as making beeswax candles, face painting, a scavenger hunt, and a planting session.
The Pollinator Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.Get a Free Quote for Gift Certificates
