Fayetteville to serve as staging area for awareness-raising walk

A Fayetteville walk will show local veterans that they have the full support of their community.

The organizers of Let’s Walk It Out, which is scheduled for April, will see a group of walkers take on a route that winds for 222 or more miles. They will be walking to raise awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health issues often faced by vets, and anyone who would like to join in is encouraged to do so.

Participants will be hitting the road at Charlie Mikes Pub in Fayetteville, and from there, they will make their way to Campo Lejune before they return to the starting point. While they go, they will be helping to smash the stigma that often surrounds mental health issues. Along with veterans, the activity will show some love to first responders and current military members.

To help increase public awareness about the impact PTSD and mental illness may have, the organizers have made several clothing and other items available that feature a special graphic design prepared for the occasion.

The Let’s Walk It Out funding and awareness raiser will begin on Thursday, April 11 and has its closing ceremony on Saturday, April 20. Anyone who would like to get involved as participant, sponsor, spectator or donor can find more details on the Greater Fayetteville Chamber website.
