Fayetteville class to focus on plant propagation

Anyone who would like to build a houseplant collection of their own may find that a Fayetteville class will help to make home horticulture a lot easier on their pocketbook.

Mallory Schroer, who is a Therapeutic Horticulture Manager at Cape Fear Botanical Garden, will be covering the basics of plant propagation during an upcoming workshop. It will include species that are easy to work with, and questions about the activity may be directed to mschroer@capefearbg.org.

The group will learn various methods for propagating, such as rooting cuttings, and an assortment of species that are common in the trade will be used. These include pothos, sansevieria, and spider plants, with special consideration given to African violets. Everyone will receive a jar they can use with their own indoor garden, and there are two different March dates to choose from so that as many as possible may be accommodated.

More people are becoming interested in learning about houseplants and would like to try their hand at cultivating them for themselves. If they are supplied with “cheat sheets” of tips, it will be easier for them to care for their own indoor plantings. These can be prepared by Stationery printers.

Cape Fear Botanical Garden will be offering its Propagation Workshop on March 17 and 30. A link to register has been made available to the public online, and all adults are welcome.
