Fayetteville chalks up new education options

Fayetteville recently welcomed two new charter schools in the community.

The Capitol Encore Academy resides in the former Capitol department store building, which had been an icon in the downtown area for 77 years. Although the exterior remains much the same, the interior has been renovated to offer classes from kindergarten to fifth grade with an emphasis on integrating the arts into core academics, and also offering a heavy concentration on the arts themselves.

Several years ago, the former department store was converted into a family entertainment complex, which eventually went out of business. The designers of the school were able to take advantage of many of the remaining features to provide the tools for creative students.

The second addition, Anderson Creek Club Charter School, is located outside Spring Lake in a wooded area and also has grades kindergarten through fifth. The school has a more traditional curriculum but offers extra enrichment opportunities both before and after school four days a week, for which there is a fee. The programs offered include technology, science, math, public speaking, and foreign languages.

During regular school time, there are many innovations, such as smart boards in every classroom and the ability for each student to learn at his or her own pace.

The Board of Directors of each school could work with flyer printing companies to provide more information to the local community.
