Cary to hold course on town government

Cary will be holding its signature engagement program for citizens designed to provide an inside look on how local government works. The course is called “Cary 101” and will run for nine weeks.

During the course, attendees will learn what services the town provides; how municipal government functions; and how residents can become involved. Attendees will get a look behind the scenes of the culture, decision-making process, and structure of the government of Cary. There will be presentations, discussions, and hands-on activities so that attendees can garner a better understanding of the wide range of operations and planning that is involved in the town.

The goal areas of the Cary Town Council inform each session of the course. These goals include good governance; promoting a safe community; creating a livable, well-planned, and active community; seeking economic development and vitality; and creating quality, leisure, recreational, and cultural opportunities; among others.

Such special courses can be promoted throughout a town with brochure printing.

This course was formerly known as the School of Government and was developed to give residents of Cary a better understanding of how and when the public can be involved in town decisions and processes.

Those who can attend this course need to be residents of Cary or the extra-territorial jurisdiction of Cary and be at least 16 years old. The course will run from early April through May.
