New hospital to be built in Cary
Duke Health will be adding hospital services at its existing location in Cary, providing access to healthcare closer to the workplaces and homes of the rapidly growing population in the community.
The first phase will include a new inpatient hospital campus, with imaging, surgical services, an emergency department, and a small number of beds for inpatients. Cancer care, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and other infusion services will also be catered for in the same building.
These services are part of a strategic plan for the campus at Duke Health Cary, which spans 85 acres. Approval has been received by the state for 40 hospital beds. When the campus is completed, it is expected that about 1,600 people will be employed by the hospital.

The chief strategy officer for Duke University Health System, Morgan Jones, said Duke Health Cary was opened in 2022 with several clinics including pediatric, urgent, and primary care. Jones said this was exciting at the time, but this new phase will provide an option that is more convenient for inpatient and emergency care, with more specialized services to be added in the future. Morgan commented that the project will provide high-quality healthcare and drive economic development.
