Cary teacher gets Wake County accolade

Macy Brinson, a teacher of physical education at Kingswood Magnet Elementary in Cary, has been named as the Teacher of the Year in the Wake County Public School System. Brinson has taught at Kingswood Magnet for the past four years.

News of such recognition is often made known throughout a school district and community with flyer printing.

Sherry Schliesser, principal of Kingswood Magnet, said that Brinson is dedicated to her students and her program, and takes ownership and pride in everything she does. Schliesser added that she provides relevant and high-quality instruction to all grades every day, and knows the names of all the students.

Brinson’s focus is on allowing students to have choice in education and to develop their skills. She also is in charge of a running club at the school in the fall and spring. The culmination of this is a 5K race for parents and students that benefits an organization in the community.

As Teacher of the Year, Brinson will be participating in the international study program of Go Global NC, which will be in Zambia and Botswana next summer. She will also be able to go to the Global Leaders Teacher Fellowship conference, which is paid for by Participate Learning.

Lastly, she will receive a gift card of $100 to Angus Barn, an engraved plaque, an Amazon gift card of $100, a gift bag from Crossroads Chick-fil-A, and a stay for a weekend at the Umstead Hotel and Spa.
