Wentzville boat builders get out the duct tape

The city of Wentzville is all set to turn out for our annual Cardboard Boat Race. All ages are invited to participate.

Many locals are planning the schematics, getting out the cardboard and duct Tape and creating a floating something-or-other that can participate in the race. Boat builders are encouraged to decorate their crafts and arrive in costume.

Two people must be in the boat during the race, and they must wear lifejackets, which will be available at the site. Entrants are responsible for the boats and must take them with them when they leave. The craft only has to stay afloat for the short race in Progress Park Pool and can be thrown into a nearby dumpster on the way out of the park.

Categories for awards will be Best Decorated, Fastest Boat, Lifeguard’s Choice, and Sinking Ship – otherwise known as the Titanic Award. Whether they win or lose, families and friends will no doubt be taking pictures of their big and little pirates, mermaids and Vikings for family Calendars, personalized Stationery, or future poster printing.

The Cardboard Boat Race will start at 6:30 pm this evening, August 15, at Progress Park, 968 Meyer Road, Wentzville. Registration fee will be $15. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, the rain date will be Thursday, August 24 beginning at 6:30 pm.
