The First Bank branch located inside Dierbergs, at 221 Salt Lick Road, in St. Peters, is having a free Shred Day.
The bank is offering the service so that people will have a secure, convenient way to dispose of confidential or important papers. With identity theft being a fast growing crime, disposing of important papers securely is more important than ever.
The event is free to attend, but Boy Scouts from the area will be there collecting donations of non-perishable foodstuffs to be used by Operation Food Search; a food bank that serves the greater St. Louis area, including St. Peters. The organization was founded in 1981 in order to combat the increasing problem of hunger in the region. It distributes food to the hungry and poor at no charge to them.
Operation Food Search distributes almost three million pounds of food and other necessary supplies each month, which feeds approximately 150,000 people. Roughly a third of the people reached out to by the group are children.
First Bank could work with a flyer printing company to get handouts ready to distribute near the location close to the day of the event, reminding people to bring non-perishable food to donate.
Shred Day runs from 9:00 am to noon on Saturday, April 19, and is open to the public.
