Greenway Network is partnering with Great Rivers Greenway and the St. Louis Audubon Society for what it is calling a ‘Honeysuckle Bash’.
The are four sites in the area where honeysuckle is so invasive it needs to be removed. The plant is not native to the area, and it is spreading so fast throughout many of the area's trails and parks that it is crowding out species native to Missouri.
Since the scope of the effort is so large, volunteers are needed. They will be asked to help get rid of the honeysuckle so native plants can flourish. Volunteers will be trained and given needed supplies, and will also be treated to refreshments and lunch.
There are four sites that need to be cleaned up: the Centennial Greenway at Heritage Museum, located in St. Peters; the Blanchette Park in St. Charles; Creve Coeur County Park; and the Dardenne Greenway in Dardenne Prairie.
At noon, after the work is finished, volunteers will celebrate with a barbecue at the Heritage Museum in St. Charles County Park. Music will be provided courtesy of the Seldom Fed Five band.
The Honeysuckle Bash starts at 8.30 am tomorrow, October 17. The organizations who are asking for help with this effort might consider working with a poster printing company on colorful Posters to put up throughout the area, listing the time and location of the bash.
