A group of jackpot winners paid a visit to a local children’s organisation earlier this month as they looked to put something back into the community.
Gary and Yvonne Welker of St. Peters won over six million dollars in 1989 from the Missouri Lotto. They admit that they were like many winners and did not know quite what to do with the money. However, they have now met other lottery winners who have had many of the same reactions.
Those other winners, along with the Welkers, visited the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis on August 1. It was the last day of the summer camp, and approximately 40 of the lottery winners played football, soccer, double-dutch, and baseball with the kids. Flint Fowler, president of the Boys and Girls Clubs, said the event gave staff members and young people a unique perspective, as they watched the millionaires give something back to the community.
Fowler says they try to make the last day of camp as exciting as possible, and were delighted to welcome the lottery winners, the first time that group has come to the Boys and Girls Clubs. Among them, the millionaires had won $304m collectively.
The club could work with a flyer printing company to create a handout describing the event, promoting the fun of the club, and inviting visitors to consider joining the organization.
