St. Peters resident Wesley, 7, has said that he would like to go to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Now, thanks to Make-A-Wish® and its alliance with the United Health Foundation, Wesley will soon be on his way to swim with sharks at the resort.
Wesley received an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia diagnosis in August 2011, shortly before his fifth birthday. He is currently undergoing treatment at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and, according to an article on St. Peters’ Patch.com, is doing exceptionally well and showing plenty of energy, using his free time to play drums and baseball.
The upcoming trip would not be possible without the help of United Health and Make-A-Wish. The latter organization works to grant the wishes of children who are battling medical conditions that are deemed life-threatening.
Wesley decided on Atlantis when he saw a TV commercial about the resort that featured people plunging down water slides into shark-filled pools. Wesley is fascinated by sharks and can hardly wait to see them in person. A send-off party was arranged for the youngster earlier this month.
The healthcare organizations sponsoring Wesley and his family's trip could consider working with brochure printers to create marketing materials to raise funds, using Wesley (with his and his family's permission) as an example of the sort of work they do.
