New hotel in the St. Peters pipeline

Construction workers in St. Peters have begun tearing down the old Holiday Inn, located on Veterans Memorial Parkway, to make room for a new hotel.

A new Courtyard by Marriott will go up on the site. City officials expressed a hope the new hotel would be open by December 2015.

Demolition of the 200-room Holiday Inn should be finished by the end of this December, according to William Charnisky, St. Peters City Administrator. Work on the Marriott is likely to start early in the New Year.

The new hotel, which will have 125 rooms, will take approximately a year to build, Charnisky said, adding that property next to the site has been bought as well with the idea that it will provide a location for a new restaurant.

There has been a hotel on this spot for 30 years. In 2013, St. Louis's Midas Investment, LLC, said it had plans to develop the Courtyard, and a permit was issued in July of that year. Midas says the new Marriott will have a fitness center, bistro, and indoor pool, as well as 5,000 square feet that can be used as meeting space. The price tag for the 125 room, four-story hotel is $14.6m.

When they are ready to open, managers of the new hotel could work with a postcard printing company to create cards to mail throughout the area.
