Arbor Day is a time to help make communities all across the country a little bit greener, and Oakdale is on the list of cities marking the occasion with a special event.
The city has organized a tree giveaway, and this will be taking place in Walton Park’s band shell parking area. There will be 200 on site for distribution, and four species will be on the list.
The planners explained that there will be 50 of each type to handout, and this will be done as drive through style activity. Those who are interested will need to register in advance, and they can schedule their pick up time. Each address or household is welcome to receive one sapling. Beech, oak, buckeye trees will be available, as will the Zestar apple cultivar, which was developed at the University of Minnesota. These all tend to do well in local conditions.
As well as the tree giveaway a community shred is in the works. This will run throughout the morning in the parking lot at City Hall. This will take place thanks to support from Eberhard Group with Keller Williams. A poster printing company can prepare signage to help keep an event running smoothly.
This chance to help expand the urban tree canopy over Oakdale will be held on April 27th. The city’s website offers more information as well as a chance to register.
