While several butterfly species undergo an annual migration, monarchs are perhaps the best known of them, and these long-distance Flyers will be the stars of the show at an Oakdale area activity next month.
The whole family is invited to head to Shepard Farm for a Friday evening event that will give them a chance to learn more about monarchs. It is part of a series designed to introduce the public to the wildlife in their own backyard, and a naturalist will guide the session.
The attendees will learn about these butterflies, how they migrate, and what they need to survive. Since it is the state's official butterfly, everyone will find out how they can become citizen scientists by making observations that can be added to the existing knowledge base about these insects. Registration must be completed ahead of time, and the activity is for ages five and up.
Everyone, no matter their age, may relish the chance to learn something new. Print shops can provide full-color handouts and other items to hand out during an educational event.
The team at Shepherd Farm In Cottage Grove will be offering the public this chance to make discoveries about monarch butterflies on Friday, August 18. It will begin at 6:00 pm and continue on until it wraps up at 7:15 pm.
