January may be a month best known for being cold, but this month will see Oakdale residents enjoy a taste of the tropics right in their own backyard.
While the St. Paul Winter Carnival may be a celebration of chilly outdoor fun, it will also pay a nod to those who prefer to spend their winter days indoors. The Orchid Show that will be hosted at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory will treat the public to a mini vacation while they enjoy the beauty of hundreds of orchids featuring a wide variety of species, from the common, grocery store Phalaenopsis, or ‘Moth orchids’ to others that are quite rare.
Along with an opportunity to explore the many shapes and colors of orchids, the event has a lot more to offer. Members of the Orchid Society of Minnesota will be on hand, sharing their love of these plants and offering tips for their care and culture. There will also be high-quality plants available for purchase, and it can be a great chance for those who are new to the hobby to get their feet wet.
As well as the orchids, an assortment of vendors will have related Promotional Products, Books, growing medium, containers and other items for sale that may be of interest to area orchid lovers. The organizers noted that all ages can enjoy growing these plants, and with many species to choose from, there is one for almost every skill level from the newbie to the expert.
