Minneapolis celebrates winter at annual carnival

The 140th St. Paul Winter Carnival will be coming to the Minneapolis area in late January.

The festivities will begin with a kickoff at Rice Park. Gates will open at 6:00 pm and the laser light show will begin at 6:15 pm. The 2025 Ice Carnival Royal Family will officially open the carnival.

The 140th Winter Carnival Kickoff event will be held January 22nd from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, 109 W 4th S. St. Paul.

January 22nd to February 1st, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, the park will be turned into the "Ice Park" as 17 ice carvers turn huge 8x8x8' blocks of ice into masterpieces.

Pictures taken of ice carvings like these often go to Stationery printers to become part of winter greeting cards and note card sets.

Along with food festivals, a fair, royal coronation, concerts, an orchid show, jigsaw puzzle competition and Frosty Art Affair, the carnival will feature two parades. The daytime one, King Boreas' Grande Day Parade will begin on Grand Avenue from Dale to Lexington. Lead by the newly crowned Royal Family and King Boreas, the procession will have floats and bands. It will begin at 2:00 pm on January 26th and be over around 3:30 pm.

The Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade, when the Vulcans bring summer back by overthrowing King Boreas, will take place from 5:15 pm to 7:30 pm. January 31st, in Downtown St. Paul.
