Volunteers sought for Brooklyn Park area speakers bureau

Adoption can be one way of building a loving family, and a program that shares details of adoptive success stories is seeking volunteers from Brooklyn Park for its classroom presentations.

Formerly known as ‘Adoption Option Council of Minnesota’, Bellis has been working for several decades to offer adoption resources for the communities it serves. It is looking for volunteers to go into classrooms to share details about the ins and out of the modern adoption process. Training is provided, and it is free to get involved.

The organization noted that the goal of its volunteer presenter initiative is to change the current view of adoption so that it will be more compassionate and sensitive. It was explained that by reaching out to young people, it is hoped that it will encourage discussion about adoption and help to remove the stigma that can surround it. The speakers will share their story, answer questions and refer the students to resources, both online and in their community, that can be helpful to both parents, adopted individuals, and also their families.

The first training session for those who are interested in becoming involved with this initiative will begin at 3:15 pm, and it will run for two and a half hours. A printing services provider can offer many customizable learning materials for use during an event like this.

January 27 has been chosen as the date for this initial meeting. It will be held at 5910 Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center, and the Bellis website can be consulted for more information.
