Conference to help Brooklyn Park become disaster ready

Preparation is key when it comes to natural and manmade disasters, this will be the focus of a Brooklyn Park symposium next month.

Both local and national speakers will be taking to the podium in the ‘Footprint of Disasters Finding Strength’ conference, and they will be sharing best practices and lessons learned through their own experience. It is intended to be a learning experience, and social workers and psychologists who attend may be eligible to receive continuing education credits.

The event will investigate disaster responses from a variety of perspectives, with a focus on how a community can prepare itself to provide both physical and mental healthcare services in the aftermath of a crisis. They will learn about the importance of communication between government and private sector agencies, victim support and trauma informed care, and there will be many other subjects addressed as well.

The fee to register for this day of practical training and tips is $80 each. Promotional Pens and other swag are just a few of the items that can be prepared by area Print shops for use during this type of occasion.

Registrants for this conference are asked to arrive at The Earle Brown Heritage Center by no later than 8:00 am to take their seat. It will be offered on May 6.
