Seniors who want to learn more about how to protect themselves from scams are invited to a workshop in Bloomington at the Creekside Community Center this spring.
The workshop is hosted by staff from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.
Whether they come from someone you know in your inner circle or from a stranger across the globe, scams come in all shapes and sizes and vary in complexity. Many types of scams have persisted throughout the years but they’re often repackaged into something that seems new since con artists are constantly trying to reinvent their deceptive techniques.
According to the Minnesota AG’s Office, some common cons that target seniors include computer scams, investment scams, identity theft, magazine scams, scams involving people posing as a long-lost relative or grandchild, lottery scams, Medicare and Social Security scams and living trusts.
In the workshop, experts will talk in detail about these scams aimed at the elderly and how to protect against them. The program is free for adults 50 years old and above, though it does require registering online with limited spaces available.
Workshops like these may choose to use flyer printing to get the word out in the community.
The “Don’t Let Scams Get You!” workshop is happening on Monday, May 5, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Creekside Community Center in on 9801 Penn Avenue South in Bloomington.
