The convention MarsCon will be switching to a virtual format in March instead of being held in-person in Bloomington.
MarsCon is a fan-run SciFi convention offering attendees various themed activities. This year, the festival has been entirely repurposed for a virtual audience to keep fans safe during the pandemic. The theme for the event will be Forces of Darkness.
Several musicians will be performing online at the convention, such as Robbie Ellis and Devo Spice. The musical comedy artist Amy Englehardt will make her debut at the event. There will also be a virtual art show and dealers’ room.
The first MarsCon was held in 1999 to celebrate 60 years of fandom. Other themes for the convection through the years include A Space Oddity, The Magic of Fantasy, and Things That Go Bump in the Night.
The convention helps support several worthy causes through its charity page, including the Cookie Cart organization and the Gordy Dickson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Organizations like these can boost their public awareness by using Print shops to make Posters.
MarsCon will be free to the public this year as a virtual event, though fans of the convention are encouraged to donate online to help the organizers cover ongoing expenses for the festivities. The event will be held from March 12 to March 14. Paid memberships for the con will roll over to next year’s convention.
