Bloomington marathon to benefit heart association

Bloomington will be debuting a new athletic fundraiser in September known as the Hy-Vee Twin Cities Women’s Half Marathon and 5K.

The Hy-Vee Twin Cities Women’s Half Marathon and 5K is a race that is part of the National Women’s Half Marathon Series. The majority of the route will take place in Bloomington’s scenic Normandale Lake Park. Participants who pre-register for the marathon will receive a commemorative t-shirt, finisher medal, and free food and refreshments after the course is completed. There are currently no COVID-19 related restrictions for the activity, though the event organizers will update the website if policies change.

The charity benefiting from the marathon will be the American Heart Association. The organization was founded in 1924 by six cardiologists and has made significant financial contributions towards researching cardiovascular diseases. A few of the breakthroughs the group helped fund include cholesterol-lowering medications, new procedures to correct newborn heart defects, and linking dietary fat to cholesterol. Nonprofits such as this may share their goals and findings with the community by using brochure printing services.

The charitable marathon will be held on Sunday, September 12 and will start at 7:30 am. The cost to register for the half-marathon will be $75, though participants will receive a discount if they register in advance. The 5K can be entered for $45. Guests can also save money on their 5K registration costs by entering the race before September 9.
