A presentation that may help to build a greater understanding between autistics and their family members and friends will be offered this December near Clawson.
The “Building Autism Awareness'' workshop that will be held at the Pontiac Public Library will introduce the subject of autism, and the function will be facilitated by a subject matter expert from Foundation Autism Outreach Services (OUCARES). There is no registration fee, and refreshments will be served.
The hour-long presentation will discuss what autism is and will provide an assortment of evidence-based strategies that can help families to better engage with someone who is non-neurotypical. Everyone will receive tools they can use, such as picture cards and other materials, and the organizers note that it may be helpful to parents with children of any age. Everyone who is interested has been asked to submit a registration request ahead of the event, as this will aid the planners in organizing the function.
Those on the autism spectrum may benefit from the use of social stories and other materials to help them mentally prepare for a particular activity. These sorts of items may be crafted by Stationery printers according to its customer’s specifications.
The Pontiac Public Library will be hosting this learning opportunity on December 9. It is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm, and anyone who would like to add their name to the list of registrants can do so now.
