Clawson area birders plan post-Thanksgiving outing
Birding is a hobby that can be enjoyed all year round, and a Clawson area activity will offer an opportunity to view some of its feathered friends.
A visit has been planned for the Belle Isle Nature Center that will take place just before Thanksgiving. It will be a caravan-style excursion where participants will be on the lookout for ducks and other waterfowl.
The outing will visit a venue on the Detroit River, which is home to one of the continent’s largest wintering populations of canvasback ducks. With some luck, birders may be able to spot a “lifer.”
The group will meet up in the parking lot at the Center. Tickets for the activity are $30 each. Both adults and children are welcome, and anyone under five, as well as Detroit Bird Alliance Chapter members, will be admitted free of charge.
An in-the-field nature-based activity can be both fun and educational. Promotional pens may be paired with note recording sheets to hand out during such an activity so that the participants can record any observations they make.
This visit to a Clawson birding area will be held on Saturday, November 30. The start time will be 9:00 am. When they reserve their space, members of the public may also choose to apply for a membership in the Detroit Bird Alliance.
