What's in a name?
For reasons no one seems to know, the city's name is misspelled. One of the city's earliest settlers was John Lawson and the city was named in his honor, but his last name was somehow transformed into Clawson, which has remained the community's name. The Clawson Historical Society helps support the Clawson Historical Museum, which preserves documents and artifacts from the earliest settlers, focusing largely on the 1920s.
