The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) of Saco is hosting two upcoming events.
The fifth annual International Ride of Silence will be held later this month and will start in the parking lot of the Dyer Library. More than 400 locations around the world hold this ride, the purpose of which is to raise awareness of the importance of sharing the road, and to honor pedestrians and cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling or walking on public roadways. The route is centered on downtown Saco and is less than three miles long. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate.
Participants should meet at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 21 so that the ride can start at 7:00 pm. Poster printing is often used to promote such events throughout a community.
The second annual Bike Rodeo will then be held at Thornton Academy next month. This event is geared towards younger members of the community to help them learn the rules of the road on a simulated track, and to practice safe use of a bicycle. These younger members will learn how to navigate through one-way and two-way streets, as well as yield Signs and two-way and four-way stops. This will be a barricaded and marked course so that kids will be able to practice safety skills in a fund and safe environment.
This will be held from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday, June 14.
