A bike rodeo will be held in Saco this weekend to teach safe cycling to children by using various interactive courses and activities.
Such special events are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.
Topics to be covered in the rodeo will include all the important Checks for bike safety such as air, brakes, chains, footwear, and helmets. This will be followed by the rules of the road, signage, and hand signals.
There will also be a simulated roadway so kids can practice their biking skills when navigating through one-way and two-way streets, as well as at intersections with four-way stops, two-way stops, and yield Signs. This will be a fun and safe environment in a formally barricaded and marked course.
The event is being hosted by the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee of Saco, as well as the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, Apex Youth Connection, and the Saco Planning Department. The mission of the Saco Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is to encourage and support a community that is friendly to both walkers and bikers, providing convenient, safe, and enjoyable active transportation for those of all abilities and ages. Business owners, residents, and volunteers make up the Committee.
The bike rodeo will take place on the campus of Thorton Academy tomorrow, July 13, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
