Age Friendly Saco (AFS) and the Ferry Beach Association (FBA) Retreat and Conference Center are partnering this year to prepare meals for those in need during this holiday season.
Announcements of such partnerships and their efforts to support the community are made known with poster printing.
The two groups will be preparing 300 meals for pickup at the Ferry Beach Retreat. Conference Center Volunteer President of AFS, Jean Saunders, said several donors in the area have provided the funding to cover all costs of the meals, including food and packing supplies. Among the donors are Saco and Biddeford Savings, Saco Valley Credit Union, Jim Godbout Plumbing and Heating, and Provencher Fuels.
The kitchen and dining facility will be staffed by professional chefs from the FBA, who will take charge of all the cooking. Packaging of the meals will be done in the dining room. The parking area at the Conference Center will be used for distribution and pick-up of the meals.
Members of the Saco Bay Rotary Club are being asked to volunteer to help pack the meals inside and distribute them outdoors. Volunteers will be asked to attend a food handling briefing at noon and to work in shifts of three hours. Meals will be distributed next Wednesday, November 25 from 2:00 until 6:00 pm.
