Saco becomes home to gluten-free bakery

A new gluten-free bakery, Sweets & Co., is now open in downtown Saco.

Lorraine Fagela is the owner of Sweets & Co. and has developed her own gluten-free flour. The blend of four ingredients is also available for sale at the shop but her creations from that flour are what make the shop unique.

Among the treats available at the shop are handheld pies, cakes, and eclairs. The signature item offered is the specialty cinnamon rolls. Fagela calls this item a unicorn as such a treat does not exist for those who are gluten-free. Sweets & Co. also offers beverages that include coffee, coffee drinks, tea, and smoothies.

Such new shops can benefit from flyer printing to help promote their menu and their unique menu items.

The bakery was started by Fagela as she is allergic to gluten. She said that she did enjoy eating salads while all her friends were eating bread. Consequently, she decided to bake bread and other goods that are glute- free.

Sweets & Co. also gives back to the community through its partnerships with local and international non-profit organizations. For every bag of coffee that is sold, the shop funds meals for hungry children and teenagers locally, nationally, and around the world.

Sweets & Co. is located at the corner of Cutts Avenue and Main Street and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
