News of such appointments is often spread throughout a city with poster printing.
Pendleton started his career as a Junior Firefighter with the Saco Fire Department in 1978 while he was a student at Thornton Academy. In 1985, he joined the Portland Fire Department and remained there for 27 years, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief. While serving the Portland Fire Department, he spent a great deal of time responding to emergencies in Casco Bay and the Fore River.
He returned to the Career Division of the Saco Fire Department in 2012. His responsibilities have been to lead the Marine Division and its training program by ensuring that first responders can handle emergencies in the water efficiently and safely. He will remain as Deputy Fire Chief along with his new position as Interim Harbormaster.
It is a tradition in his family to be a Harbormaster. His cousin, Donald Abbott, and his uncle, Charles Pendleton, held that role, which is commemorated on plaques at Camp Ellis where Pendleton was raised. Pendleton is proud to be the third generation in his family to hold this position as he was born and raised in Saco and holds a license from the United States Coast Guard Captain’s License for 100-ton inland waters.
