New art exhibit comes to Saco area

Currently on display at the Campus Center of the University of New England in Biddeford is a series of paintings by Adrienne Kernan LaVallee, an artist based in New England. Residents of nearby Saco who are interested in original artwork may be interested in paying it a visit.

The exhibit, titled “Seasons,” consists of 11 paintings and have been selected from a series of landscape paintings that represent LaVallee’s work, which began in 1995. Such exhibits often use brochure printing to provide more information about the individual pieces of artwork.

LaVallee grew up in New England. Her family started taking their vacations in Maine in the early 1960s. She now lives in Biddeford Pool and paints using oils in her backyard studio. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore.

LaVallee said that her love of oil paint began when she was three years old, at which time she would get hold of her father’s paints and try to mix colors on the floor. She recalls her mother’s screams when she discovered her handiwork, but now prefers to mix and push oil paints on canvas.

The exhibit will run until Tuesday, November 1. The hours are 6:00 am to 11:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 7:00 am to 10:00 pm on the weekends.
