New restaurant to open in Bethesda

Chef Ashish Alfred, who attended Manhattan's French Culinary Institute, worked in restaurants in New York City and opened two restaurants in Bethesda since 2013, is now about to add a third to the list.

Alfred is the chef behind 4935 Bar and Kitchen, and Duck Duck Goose, and is aiming to open George's Chophouse soon.

The new venture will be a steakhouse complete with a raw bar, and will be located on the first floor of the 4935 Bar and Kitchen. According to Chef Alfred, the concept for the first floor is entirely new, but 4935's second floor will continue to offer a venue for parties, receptions, and bar mitzvahs. The menu at 4935's for these occasions is driven largely by guests' needs.

Downstairs, the menu will offer between five and seven medium-priced steaks, along with seasonal side dishes. The raw bar will feature crabs, steamed clams, and fresh oysters, while the drink menu will include beer, wine, and classic cocktails. The physical design of the space includes exposed brick, and an open kitchen allowing patrons to watch the professional cooks.

Alfred revealed that he is naming his new spot for his brother, Dhiraj Waidande, whose nickname was George, and who died of a heart attack two years ago. As their parents worked such long hours, George helped raise Alfred.

Efforts like the new restaurant, which Alfred hopes will open in August, can benefit if management works with a flyer printing company to create a handout.
