Annapolis event to feature 1,000lb pumpkins
Giant pumpkins have been used for everything from Halloween decor to river racing, and they will be the centerpiece of an upcoming Annapolis fall festival.
Some huge pumpkins, many of which will be 1,000lb in size or more, will soon be popping up on the sidewalks in the community's downtown. The displays will be organized by the Downtown Annapolis Partnership. The community is invited to get in on the fun of what will be just one part of the city’s overall autumn event plans.
The public is encouraged to visit the downtown district and view the pumpkins in person. They will be grown in western Pennsylvania, and the displays may make for attractive backdrops for photos. They will be deployed to their posts using a forklift truck During the final days of the event, the giant gourds will be carved into whimsical jack-o-lanterns.
People are invited to post their picture of the pumpkins to social media using the hashtag #GreatAnnapolisPumpkins. Those who do will have their name entered into a draw for an assortment of promotional products and other prizes donated by downtown merchants and other local businesses.
