Proper pruning can lead to increased flower and fruit production, and West Roxbury home horticulturalists may want to save space in their March agenda for an area workshop.
Winter pruning can be used with a variety of species of fruiting trees, and doing so requires a few simple tools and some know-how. Leland Cooperative Garden will be the location for the class, and it will provide a mixture of instruction and hands-on experience.
Attendees in the session will find out when, how and why to make their cuts, and they will find out which type of secateurs and other tools are right for the task at hand. No previous experience is needed, and everyone should bring a pair of gardening gloves and be ready to ask any questions they have. Light refreshments will be served, and subject matter expert Ben Crouch will share his knowledge and skills with the group.
A lot of people are becoming more interested in growing their own food at home, and taking part in an organized activity can help them learn new skills and meet others who are also engaged in the practice. Sheets of pruning, grafting and other horticultural tips for a class can be ordered from Stationery printers.
Leland Cooperative Garden will be offering this chance to get the inside scoop on the value of pruning on March 7th from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm.
