An artist whose impressive range of talent makes her music difficult to classify is coming to West Roxbury.
Les Sampou is a powerful, versatile singer who will share her original songs with her audience. She performs in a variety of genres, from indie rock to sultry jazz to folk/country.
Les Sampou is a native of Norwalk, Connecticut, who has been touring throughout the country and internationally since the 1990s, appearing at such events as the Toronto Blues Festival, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Her recordings cover a wide range. Her album “Borrowed & Blue,” recorded in 2001, is a collection of classic country blues songs, with Sampou on vocals and guitar. Critics like Peterborough Folk Music’s Roberta Schwartz praised the album as an illustration of how the Blues can be made to reach younger audiences.
Her 2010 album “Lonesomeville” featured Americana and folk songs, and she supported it by appearing at folk venues. Sampou has written for television and film, and released her latest album, “Best Day of the Year,” in 2024.
Les Sampou is part of the Music on Centre concert series, held at the parish hall, 70 Corey Street, which is behind the Theodore Parker UU Church. There are two city parks close by, and free parking across the street. The event is February 8, from 7.30 pm until 10.00 pm and tickets are $25.00.
